So you want to be a Mendicant?
The Mendicants, Stanford University's first a cappella group established in 1963, have reached the ICCA semi-finals five times. With 30 studio albums under our belt, we stand out as the nation's second-most-streamed college a cappella ensemble. Every year, we aim to elevate our ensemble with talented individuals who not only have a knack for harmonies but also contribute to the community we've come to know and love. From freshmen to seasoned seniors, we're eager to meet musicians from all backgrounds. We hope you'll consider auditioning for us! Swing by our table in White Plaza during NSO to get a feel of who we are and scope out some of the other groups.
Auditions for 2025-2026 will be held from Sept 22nd to Sept 24th. If you’re interested, schedule your audition by clicking on the “Book an Audition” button (or through this link).
UPDATE: If you are unable to make an in-person audition, we are adding the option to submit a 1-minute video audition. Click here to get started!
What should I expect?
Your audition will open with foundational checks on range, rhythm, and pitch. We’d then love to hear a 45-90 second solo from you, ideally something that truly showcases your vocal strengths and personality—most find this in their go-to song. Remember, we're as keen on knowing your musical prowess as we are in understanding you as an individual. Passion and a can-do attitude always strike the right chord with us.
While pure vocals are central, our ensemble thrives on versatility. Beatboxers, composers, arrangers, or those with a flair for choreography and leadership – we value every talent that can amp up our performances.
